The first stop on my trip to South Dakota this past weekend was to Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, which sits just a few miles north of Badlands National Park. The site was built during the Cold War as a missile launch facility and was active until 1991. The Historic Site was established in 1999 but features a beautiful, brand new visitor’s center. They were out of tickets to go down into the launch facility when I visited, but it was an interesting stop nonetheless.
