My final park stop was the majestic Mount Rushmore. I had been here as a child but didn’t have real memories of it. The site is beautiful and I enjoyed taking it in from the various angles and views. I encourage you to visit the “historic viewing platform” as this angle was my favorite, with faces peeking through the pines. Another great find was a plaque leading down to the artist’s studio with a quote from President Coolidge:
“Let us place there, carved high as close to heaven as we can… our leaders, their faces, to show posterity what manner of men they were.” –Mount Rushmore dedication address by President Coolidge, 1927
