The Natchez Trace is a beautiful, winding parkway that totals 444 miles. I drove only 50 or so miles, exploring some of the historic sites and taking in the beauty along the way. This route was used throughout the 1700s and 1800s by explorers, travelers, and working men selling crops and livestock. It also was used by many Native Americans and is part of the Trail of Tears that marks their journey to Oklahoma. The low-speed highway is on federally protected land and is popular with bicyclists as well as wild turkeys. There were many beautiful stops along the route, including two small waterfalls.
