Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park

IMG_1647This was the fourth National Park on my tour and the first time I’ve ever been to a volcano. The landscape here is stunning as the past lava flows cascade down to the ocean. This was a great stop as I had a colleague along with me – having someone to go along is always better! After stopping briefly at the portion that is currently active (with obligatory plume pic), we opted for the 15 mile or so drive through the lava fields to reach the ocean. The elevation change was pretty dramatic and the views were totally worth it. The waves crashing up against the rock formed from lava flows was a pretty stunning sight. Nature is amazing! [Pro tip: don’t look down and don’t fall off the edge]
