Everglades National Park

Following a work trip, I drove down to Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve. The highway quickly turned from big box stores and fast food stops to swamps and vast, open landscapes. I stopped in Everglades City to visit the Everglades Visitor’s Center. The town seemed almost deserted with little that seemed changed since the 1960s or so. There were many companies offering airboat tours along the drive down but I opted to skip the tour and instead pull off along the road in a variety of places to take in the views (pro tip: watch out for fire ants).
