Capitol Reef National Park

Capitol Reef National Park is very remote. After following an interstate from Canyonlands National Park with no services at any stops, you drive on a highways for an hour, curving through rock formations.

Within the park, we explored two different areas. One hike took us to the Hickman Arch where the surrounding rocks provided a fun echo chamber. This was another hike with steep elevation changes and our bodies were feeling it by the end. On the return hike, the Capitol Dome rock structure, which helped give the parks it’s name, stood tall in the late afternoon sun.

The next morning we trekked into the Grand Wash Gulch. Signs warned not to enter during storms as flash flooding can put visitors in danger quickly. The towering rocks were beautiful shades of red and tan as we wound our way through the gulch. Standing among the Giants you couldn’t help but yell “hellllllo” and hear the echo back.
