From Zion to the Grand Canyon, we snaked through the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, where a dam built in 1963 holds back the Colorado River and forms Lake Powell, a popular recreation spot. Rainbow Bridge National Monument is just south of this area on the Navajo Nation Reservation, but the remoteness prevented us from making a stop there.
