After seeing many canyons this week, I was looking forward to taking in the Grand Canyon and comparing it’s size and scope to the others. It was vast and did not disappoint. It was hard to imagine how long it took the canyon to form and how many others had marveled at it before me. We entered from the east on a long highway and caught the first glimpse of the canyon from the Desert View stop on the east side. An old watchtower provided a good lookout over the canyon.
By this time, we’d done quite a bit of hiking and were pretty tired so we ruled out the option of hiking into the canyon and back up. We did walk around the rim, explored the village area, and found a nice spot to sit and watch the sunset. We camped at the grounds on site which were busy but sites were spacious.
This park is one of the most visited and was the most complicated as far as shuttle services, parking and getting around.
