After leaving the Grand Canyon, we visited Navajo National Monument on our way back east. The site, on the Navajo Nation Reservation, was establish in 1909 to protect dwellings built by Puebloans almost 1,000 years ago.

The site was remote yet had quite a few visitors and nice trails and hikes. The sign at the entrance to the park was beautiful and a fitting departure from the typical National Parks Service signs.
