The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal was a working canal, moving goods down the potomac for 100 years. It sits just a few blocks south of Georgetown’s M Street and used to offer boat rides before the vessel was damaged in a storm recently.

The canal also sits along the Civil War Defenses of Washington – a network of fortifications from the civil war.
