The first stop on the final leg of this journey was at Pipestone National Monument in Pipestone, Minnesota. We arrived just before sunset to enjoy the beautiful grounds sacred to Native Americans who have quarried pipestone from these lands for generations. The stone is made into pipes used for prayer. Many of the trees along the trail had prayer ropes of different colors streaming down from the branches. The rushing Pipestone creek and Winniwissa falls provided the soundtrack for a peaceful walk as the sun set.
